Born and raised in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas, I attended Texas A&M University for both my undergraduate and veterinary degrees. After graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, I moved to Manhattan Beach, California, for a one-year small animal veterinary internship at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital. I completed a speciality internship in exotic and aquatic animal medicine at the National Aquarium in Baltimore before moving to New York to start a 3-year residency in zoo and wildlife medicine and surgery at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo.
In addition to my formal training in zoo medicine, I have a passion for public health and the common theme of one health in environmental, human, and animal health. I started my part-time Master's in Public Health degree at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in November, 2010, and expect to complete my degree in December, 2013.
Upon completion of my residency in June, 2014, I look forward to employing my skills and training in the field of conservation medicine, respecting the need of both public health and ecological soundness.
